This book is absolutely gorgeous. The watercolor illustrations are bright and beautiful, evoking a spirit of old naturalist illustrations. The fold-out "bouquet" branches have drawings of the male birds with female variants drawn on the inside where applicable. Little fruits, seeds, flower and bugs are also scattered across the inner pages. All are very well done. The descriptions are very nice as well, packed with lots of information without sounding dry. The unique one to two word descriptors for each bird gives a simplistic insight to the personality of each breed before you get into the proper narrative. The summaries overall are very flowing and naturally written, as if you're talking to a very informed friend. They're simple enough for a non-birder to understand while having enough factoids for even seasoned birders to take something from. There's a variety of countries where these birds hail from, so you're bound to learn something new.If I had to nit pick, I'd only mention that the anchoring points are a bit thick and had pressed divots into some of the pages of the book I received, but I'd expect them to return to form more or less now that the book is out of it's sleeve. You also have to be careful if you're turning the book on a flat surface with the branches displayed, because they could get caught or bent if you're not careful. The cardstock is sturdy, though, and I didn't have any bends in the branches on arrival.Overall, I adore this book. I'm definitely going to be setting it out on display in my home as a bit of a conversation starter!
This is a lovely book I highly recommend. It is beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written. My grandson enjoys it with me and it is a great book for everyone. It is a nice addition to our birding reference library, and it is also a nice display book that family and guests just want to pick up for a look, and end up reading. My family and I really enjoy watching the Bird Nerd videos on Youtube. Originally, I purchased this book to support the Bird Nerd, but I am happy to have purchased this book in it's own right.This is a great book for everyone. I recommend this book, as a nice addition to a bird reference library and also as an initial teaching tool for children. This is an inspired teaching tool for anyone who may be interested in birds. This book is a great starting place. It is a good initial identification guide, specially for the very young who don't need to be able to read in order to learn about different birds,; identify them, and enjoy the process. This book creates an interest in birds and children can enjoy it on their own. There aren't many books that can be enjoyed by a four year old and an adult. Well done.! Recommended.
This book is beautiful! Definitely a conversation piece as well as informative. I have ordered an additional copy for a gift. Every bird lover or someone you want to introduce to birding will appreciate its colorful pages as well as the outstanding quality!
This book is such a treasure! It is the perfect gift for bird lovers! The illustrations are beautiful and the text is well written. The bird bouquet is such a clever and unique idea. Love this book!
I bought this for my bird loving sister-in-law. Well, I might have to purchase another one. I fell in love with it as soon as I popped out the birds from the book. It is so unique. Info on every bird is included. I'll have to search and see if there's one on cats! If not, y'all get on that! I'm a total book loving librarian. My comment, when I set the book down, with the birds popped out was: "Ha! Try doing THAT with a Kindle!"
